That’s What Love Does

All The In Betweens

ABOUT

Maryland’s Syd Franklin is a rising pop-soul artist whose fundamental instrument is her voice. Inspired by the styles of Robert Plant and Aretha Franklin, Franklin effortlessly carries soulful melodies with her low-laying, jazzy vocals. Franklin is recognized for her vocal prowess, but it would be amiss to not give credit to her unrivaled songwriting abilities. Though she writes about her life experiences and develops works so personal to her, she somehow pens the rawest forms of emotion that end up telling the stories of all our lives and become timeless masterpieces.

Her seamless blend of soulful vocals and catchy hooks has garnered her a growing fanbase as she continues to rise in her own right as a recording artist and as a songwriter. Themes of friendship, trust, love, self discovery and mental health are often found in Franklin’s writing. “How I act, and look are totally different from how I sound as a singer, but I LOVE that. On the outside, I may appear as a bubbly, talkative, outgoing person, but I’m really invested in roaring emotions. I feel very deeply, and while I don’t put that out into the world in the way I look or speak, I do put that in my music.”

Franklin made her debut appearance at SXSW performing at an all-female artist showcase and has since performed for iHeartMedia, SiriusXM, NYC's famed Iridium, Rockwood Music Hall, and DC's own Union Stage. She has also shared her greatest asset lending backup vocals on Giveon’s “Another Heartbreak” from his 2022 debut album Give or Take.

Since then, Franklin has released her debut EP, All The In Betweens, a 7-track EP chronicling the cycles of a past relationship - the beginning, the end, and all the in-betweens. “Liability", the first single from the project became a viral hit in just a few months. “That’s What Love Does”, a timeless love song, was the project’s breakout single and became a wedding song of the summer. Franklin’s sophomore EP, Punchline, a concept album chronicling a tumultuous time navigation relationships in her life, will be released Fall 2024.
